SCHOOLS NATIONAL TREE DAY 2013

We participated in the Schools Tree Day to help the environment and beautify a garden very ugly at the front of our school.

Parents cleared the garden ready for us to plant out.  We planted ‘Happy Wanderer” to cover the fence and succulents, yuccas and geraniums because they are drought hardy which suits our environment.

Thanks to Planet Ark we planted seed sticks which they donated.  The carrots and thyme went in our vegie garden and the lemon scented tea trees we put in pots ready to transplant into our school grounds when they are big enough.  We are very proud of our efforts to beautify our garden.

Students and staff from Longwood Primary School would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to Shanna Hinns, who after reading the Tree Planting article in the Gazette, travelled specially to Longwood Primary School to give us several packets of various  organic vegetable seeds which she had collected from her garden.  Students are now eager to get the seeds planted in our vegetable patch so they can harvest the rewards and use them in their cooking program.  Contributions such as this, from people unknown to the school, are a wonderful surprise and make our students and staff proud that their achievements are being recognised by the wider community.
